And one more thing…

Dear Kickstarter backers,
You’ve written comments, sent us email, tweeted @pebblewatch and posted on I want to thank you for this. Today, we’d like to announce that your enthusiasm has helped convince us to move the entire Pebble roadmap forward and bring you a brand new feature.

Bluetooth 4.0 – inside every Pebble!

All Pebble watches will support Bluetooth 2.1 (as before) as well as Bluetooth 4.0 (Low Energy)

Here are the details:
– Bluetooth 4.0 is the latest Bluetooth standard
– It’s backwards compatible and works with all phones for which we originally pledged to support
– Please view this as our efforts to Future-Proof Pebble for our Kickstarter backers
– Bluetooth 4.0 is not a magic battery extender.
– We probably won’t enable Bluetooth 4.0 at launch, but we’ll turn it on with software at a later date (via a free upgrade)
– Our main goal in adding Bluetooth 4.0 is eventual support of wireless sensors like heart-rate and cadence (for cycling)
– It will probably not make your watch or phone battery last too much longer, but we’ll see what we can do!
Please note that we’ve been planning this addition to Pebble for a while. We made sure that the Bluetooth module that we’re using had a ‘drop-in’ upgrade option to BT 4.0. We’ve already placed a large order for the 4.0-enabled module, and it will have no effect on our timeline (hint: that’s what Update 9 was 1/2 about!).

We’re limiting Kickstarter rewards to 85,000 Pebbles

Just wanted to let everyone know that our current plan is to limit the total number of Kickstarter rewards to around 85,000 Pebbles. As soon as the total exceeds that, all rewards will change to being ‘sold out’. Right now you have claimed 75,000 watches, that leaves only 10,000 more before Pebble is sold out!

We’ve thought a lot about this decision, and we feel it’s time. You, our backers, were the first group of people to believe in Pebble, and we want to return our focus to creating the most awesome watch possible for you.
Pebble will be available eventually for $150 USD from, but the expected delivery date will be well after the ship date of all Kickstarter backers.

Reddit AMA: Ask Eric Anything!

Any fans out there? I will be hosting an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on today at 1pm EST (10a PST). Please feel free to drop by and ask me a question.
I personally can’t thank you enough. The whole team has been in a constant state of excitement over the last 4 weeks, and it’s all thanks to you. Summer is around the corner, and I feel like the adventure is just starting. It’s awesome that we’re going to be able to share it with you, our proud backers. Thanks!
Eric + Pebble Team (Andrew, Steve, Rahul, Chris, Adam and the new ones: Sarah, Martijn, Nick, Matt, Brad, Ryan)

More backers…more component orders!

A few backers were wondering how we’ll be communicating with you throughout the manufacturing and shipping process. All official updates will be posted on this Update page (and automatically emailed to you) as manufacturing continues. We can’t share everything for various reasons (we need to respect non-disclosure agreements that we’ve signed and protect our intellectual property) but here’s a quick sample!

I placed an order for a few more long lead-time components today. If you can believe it, this purchase order (PO) is for just 2 of the electronic components inside Pebble! This will be the first cheque I’ve signed with this many zeros and commas.

Hope you have an awesome weekend and for our far east backers, continue having an awesome weekend!

RunKeeper Announces App for Pebble!

Dear Backers,

Thank you for your continued support of the Pebble project. Through your tremendous backing, we have been able to get connected with an amazing app that will make your Pebble even more awesome.

We are extremely happy to announce official support for RunKeeper – the most awesome way to track your workouts! I’m told over 10 million people have used RunKeeper. The RunKeeper app uses the built-in GPS on your phone to track your progress as you run, cycle, walk, hike, and generally move around. It crunches that data and gives you statistics like speed, average pace, elapsed time and more.

I love using RunKeeper for bike rides around Palo Alto, but I’m also excited to use Pebble + RunKeeper during some cross-country ski trips next winter! I can’t wait to be able to glance down at my wrist and see instant workout data without having to dig out my phone.

We’re really happy to be working with the RunKeeper team and look forward to the exciting new ways in which the Pebble might be used!

If you’re an app developer, big or small, please keep Pebble in mind. We’d love to talk to you. Developers, please sign up here so we can keep track of everyone.

Happy Birthday Kickstarter!

Here at Pebble HQ, we’re very grateful that Kickstarter has given us an awesome platform and the ability to connect with you (our amazing backers). We’d like to wish Kickstarter a happy 3rd birthday – we can’t wait to see what incredible projects we’ll be able to back in their 4th year!

Thanks again for your tremendous suggestions, comments and forum posts. We’ve grown our team to help tackle all the messages we’re getting! I’d like to welcome Sarah, who is helping respond to private messages and reaching out to our backers.

Stay Tuned!

Warranty + Backer Discussion Forum

Hi guys and girls,

Friday evening update for you! I want to answer some key questions that came up this week in the comments section and through private messages.

Again, we are trying to read every single comment and message. It’s hard, but that’s what we need to do to earn your trust. Responses are taking longer because we’re don’t want to just copy and paste text. Instead, we’ll be posting updates to bring everyone up to speed. It’s a 37 day long Kickstarter project, and we’ll be present and posting the whole way through. We’re also here for the long haul, and we’ll be using Kickstarter updates even after you get Pebble on your wrist.

We will be offering a warranty for all Pebbles sent out to backers. We’re still working on the exact details of this warranty, keeping in mind the interests of our fully international backer list.

Discussion Forum

We soft-launched our own discussion forum the other day. You may have seen a few links to it on the comments section…we wanted to try it out before sending it to all 39,000 (!!) of you.

That’s the link! Please try to sign up using the same email address as your Kickstarter account. Don’t worry too much if you forget, we’ll be adding functionality to change your email address in a bit. Also working on new post highlighting and a search feature. What else do you want to see on the forums?

Forum rules: Absolutely no hateful comments. This will not be tolerated. We want this to be a friendly environment to discuss our mutual interest in a Pebble-y future. Please remain respectful of others. Other rules: do not spam, do not post copyright infringing material and do not post offensive links or images.

Answers to common questions

We’ve posted a Frequently Asked Questions thread to the forums. Click here! It has lots of info, like how to add shipping charges to your pledge and other important answers

Thanks again, backers! Have an awesome weekend.

Eric + Team.

Most Funded Kickstarter Ever! Thank You!

We are the most funded Kickstarter project ever thanks to you! The Pebble team and I really appreciate your commitment and backing. It’s been an incredible couple of days and we’re amazed at how many people share our vision. We’re working extremely hard to produce the best Pebble we can.
On a side note:
1. We are trying our very best to answer your private messages. We appreciate your patience.
2. Please continue to post in the comments section! We are keenly reading all your ideas and suggestions.

Developer SDK availability

We were going to make a milestone at $2mm, but you guys beat us to it.

The Software Development Kit (SDK) will be available to EVERYONE before Pebble ships. We’re also building a simulator so developers can test their applications even before they receive their watch.

Don’t worry, HACKER SPECIAL backers…you’re still getting your prototype units in August. This announcement just means that more and more apps will be available for Pebble the moment that the main batch starts to ship!

To learn more about the development capabilities of Pebble, you can follow the dev blog.

We’re also working on some other cool announcements for the remainder of the 35 days! Man…that sounds like a long time, but I know it will go by quickly.

$1mm in 28 hours

It’s tough posting about this without using too many superlatives, but I’ll try my best.

Pebble just hit $1mm; roughly 28 hours after Engadget broke the story.

You, our backers, have transformed our little project into a worldwide phenomenon. My team and I can’t thank you enough. Just want to let you know that we’re laser-focused on getting this watch onto your wrist as soon as possible.

We’ll have a more complete update coming later today with some answers to questions, new milestones and some pretty awesome news!

Watch out for that!

Eric, Andrew, Steve, Rahul, Adam, and Chris

We’re waterproofing Pebble!

Thanks again to our amazing backers.

When we started this project, we dreamed of making a waterproof smartwatch that could be used for swimming.

With the amazing support that you’ve given us, we’re going to make that dream a reality. We were originally going to make this a milestone at $1mm or something…but you guys are too fast!

All Pebble watches will be waterproof enough to swim with!

We don’t know the exact waterproofness rating yet (ie 3ATM, 5ATM to be confirmed!), and we still have to work on the industrial design for the change. It’s not going to be a dive watch, but it should be great for swimmers and people who get wet a lot! (I’m from Vancouver, Canada which is well known for it’s rainy climate. I’ll use it when I go home!)

In other news, answers to common questions:

  • Pebble can keep time even when disconnected from your phone. You can also set the time using the buttons if you’d like.
  • For color Pebble backers, you get to vote and choose your color option after the Kickstarter project closes (ie after May 17th).
  • Pebble’s USB cable is custom cable because the watch will be waterproof and can’t have a big hole for the regular USB socket. We will be selling extra cables as well.
  • Just want to remind everyone that Pebble includes a great strap, but if you’d like to swap it for one of your own, Pebble can accept any standard 22mm watch strap. I loved the photo of the NATO strap on the comments, I’m going to buy one for my Pebble!
  • The watch body dimensions are: 5cm x 3cm.
  • Pebble doesn’t have a speaker or microphone, but it does have a vibrating motor for alerts.

Just wanted to let you know that we’ve started ordering components for your watches already. We’re ordering A LOT more as well, and we’ll keep ordering if you keep backing!

Also, we’re going to have a major new milestone announcement tomorrow! (sorry for the delay)

Thanks again! And keep the app suggestions in the comments going. We’re going to open up a forum pretty shortly.
