Pebble’s Next Step

NOTE: This post has been updated to clarify refund timing for eligible backers receiving pledge reimbursements from Kickstarter.

Dear Pebblers,

Thank you all for being such loyal supporters and champions of the Pebble community and brand. You helped start something fantastic when you backed our first Kickstarter project (and shout-out to the first inPulse users). Since then, we’ve shipped over 2 million Pebbles around the world!

However—due to various factors—Pebble is no longer able to operate as an independent entity. We have made the tough decision to shut down the company and no longer manufacture Pebble devices. This news has several major implications, and we hope to answer as many questions as possible here, in Kickstarter Update #17, and on our Support site.

Pebble 2: Fit & Smart

Pebble 2, the most complete wearable experience we’ve ever developed, is ready for your wrist!

Meet the Pebble 2 + Heart Rate family.

Meet the Pebble 2 + Heart Rate family.

The original Pebble put wearable technology on the map in 2012, inspiring others to follow our lead as we explored how wearable technology fits into our lives best. Pebble 2 is the ultimate expression of our approach to wearables: first-class fitness features coupled with the essential smartwatch experience we pioneered.

Pebble 2 is a long-lasting, water-resistant sports watch that’s thinner, lighter, and stronger than the original Pebble. It’s a focused, fun wearable that makes staying active, sleeping smarter, and nurturing healthy habits easier.

Pebble 2 + Heart Rate unifies the two experiences our community wants most: fitness tracking and time-saving convenience. No other band or smartwatch comes close to blending fit and smart together so beautifully for only $129.99.

Whether you’re psyched to live healthier or want to bring order to your digital life, Pebble 2 passes the test with flying colors.

Timeline for Classic Pebbles Is Coming! Accepting Android Beta Testers Now

UPDATE: Pebble Firmware v3.8 with timeline support for Classic Pebbles is now publicly available all users. Simply download the Pebble Time app for iOS (v3.5) or Android (v3.8.1) to migrate your watch.

The Pebble Time Kickstarter project brought more than just color, voice, and ergonomic design to our family of smartwatches. The campaign also introduced a focused and delightful new operating system with Pebble Firmware 3.0. Featuring the timeline interface to organize your past, present, and future, 3.0 is all about delivering the best ways to get things done from your wrist.

During the campaign, we promised to bring support for Pebble Time’s 3.0 operating system to the rest of our lineup as well. We’re happy to announce that timeline, unlimited apps, and more are on their way to Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel this month.

Timeline on Classic

We’re inviting a few Android users to help field test the new firmware now, with the full public release of 3.8 coming soon after. Due to restrictions within the iTunes App Store, we can only extend invitations to beta test Pebble firmware to Android users at this time. Pebblers on iOS will have full access to Firmware 3.8 when it is out of beta and publicly available later this month.

Apps for Heroes: CommandWear Pebble app keeps first responders heads-up and hands-free

First responders have one of the toughest, most critical jobs out there. Any chance Pebble gets to show love and support to these everyday heroes is a win in our book.

Paramedic + Pebble

Today we’re proud to share news that CommandWear—a platform for using technology to keep first responders heads-up and hands-free when out in the field—now integrates with Pebble and is live in our appstore for Android devices.

We love that CommandWear, like Pebble, is purpose-built to be truly useful for those who need it. During extensive testing with police, paramedics, and other first responders, CommandWear refined their app to make the best use of Pebble’s tactile, glanceable, durable, and fast design and interface.

“At festivals, concerts and other large public events, noise levels can be at a height where you can’t hear yourself think, let alone hear radio communications,” explained Rod Salem, Director of Emergency Management Operations at BC Ambulance. “We have tried a number of different products, such as headsets similar to what pilots wear. Although they solve the noise issue, they are cumbersome and not conducive to caring for patients in the field.”

First responders found Pebble’s wrist vibration gave them the ability to detect incoming messages that they would have missed on their radios or smart phones. It’s great to see emergency workers like Rod show love for this Pebble integration already, and look forward to more feedback as CommandWear becomes part of more safety agencies’ toolkits.
